Club Happenings
Meetings: We meet monthly on the 2nd Monday at lunch time at various locations, usually at a Puyallup restaurant decided by our officers, except for our August picnic and December Christmas party. Contact our president for more information closer to the day.
Daffodil Club Challenge. Club members can do a yearly club challenge. We look for specific items on our walks during the year. In the past we have done weather vanes, Totem poles, Bells, Sasquatchs, etc. Those who want to participate can get a booklet to record '"sightings" of the year's challenge at walks they do, at a club meeting or from the club president. Completed books are turned in and multiple books can be used. At the end of the calendar year, those who finish, receive a "fabulous prize." 2024's challenge is "Just Out Walking the Dog" (you may have to ask the owner for the breed, as you can only use "mutt" once). No charge or other requirement other than club membership is required. It's fun to discover the challenge item on AVA or IVV walks, no matter where you walk around the country or around the world.
Wednesday Morning Walks
Everyone is welcome on our Wednesday Morning meetup group walks. A PDF of 2024 walk schedule is available. Find detailed information as they are posted at www.meetup.com/south-sound-walkers.

Our Otter Rock beach walkers.
Club Trips: Many years we have a club trip to walk in other parts of the region, depending on a committee to do the planning. Our club trips are only for members of the club.
October, 2020: We had a great road trip October 8 to October 11 or 12 stationed in Kennewick, WA. We walked in Winlock, Yakima, Umatilla, Pendelton, Dayton, Walla Walla, Prosser and Kennewick. The additional day was spent walking the 5k Airport walk at Moses Lake or a walk in Ellensburg.
Lincoln City, Oregon 2012-- In 2012 our club traveled to Lincoln City October 12-14. There were about 20 of us, including some from other clubs in the area, that carpooled down, stopped to walk in McMinnville and had lunch, then dinner in Lincoln City Friday night. Saturday many of us walked the Otter Rock event. Others did the Lincoln City walk. We ate dinner at the casino. Sunday on the way home, many of us walked in Cannon Beach. Mt. Angel, Oregon Road Trip 2013 -- In 2013 we went to Woodburn, OR September 12, 13 and 14. Some of us walked the Longview YRE on Thursday on the way down. On Friday we walked the Mt. Angel YRE and visited all the booths at their Oktoberfest festival. Saturday we walked the Silver Falls 11k walk that visited 10 waterfalls on the very scenic loop trail. Some of us walked a 5k Silverton YRE after lunch. That night we ate a great dinner at the Country restaurant on the golf course at Woodburn. Sunday we were on our own to do a YRE if we wanted on the way home. There were 24 of us. We all had a great time, thanks to John Warhol who planned it all and kept us all informed along the way.
Yakima and Prosser Club Trip -- September 11 - 14, 2014 we did a wine country weekend on the east side of the mountains. On Thursday many of us stopped in Ellensburg on the way to do the city walk. After that it was on to Yakima where we stayed at the Oxford Inn, situated right on the greenway and the start of the Yakima Greenway walk, which we did on Friday morning. On Saturday we caravaned to Prosser to do the Prosser walk and go to the farmers' market there. We finished the day with dinner in Yakima. Sunday we did the Roslyn historic walk on the way home.

We walked the Port Gamble YRE with lunch afterwards on the way Friday, the Olympic Penninsula Explorers' traditional walk on Saturday and the Gardiner YRE on the way home Sunday.
